British and Irish Culture - Contemporary English First Year Seminar

Hello, my name is Professor Jones of the Department of Contemporary English. Today, I am showcasing our seminar class on British and Irish Culture. In this seminar we explored food, drink, sports, music, famous people and festivals amongst other things. After being given a week to research a cultural topic using the Seiyo library and the internet, each seminar began with the students, handing out a worksheet they had individually prepared and giving a short presentation in English which included a question and answer session. After that, students received constructive criticism to improve their presentational and English skills. One of the highlights of the seminar was a field trip to experience an authentic cream tea in a local Sendai café. The seminar concluded with their final report about the culture of Britain and Ireland. Last year the students chose to write about cricket, cream teas, U2 and the egg-and-spoon race, for example. The teachers and students of the Department of Contemporary English are excited to participate in more seminars like this this year. Why not come and join in the fun?
